Root Canal Therapy in Calgary, Alberta

One of the most common procedures performed at our practice is root canal therapy. A root canal is performed when the dental pulp inside your tooth becomes damaged or infected. Dental pulp has the important function of supplying the tooth with essential nerves and nutrients to keep it healthy and strong. However, if the dental pulp becomes damaged, it can possibly die, causing the tooth to die as well. To prevent this from happening, a root canal may need to be performed. This procedure removes the damaged or infected dental pulp, and the inner pump chamber is thoroughly cleaned and refilled with a special dental material. The tooth is then topped off with a dental restoration, such as a dental crown, porcelain inlay / onlay to protect the tooth and ensure that it stays healthy and strong.

If you have any questions or concerns about root canal therapy, we’ll be happy to answer them. Contact our Dentist in Calgary at Shawnessy Dental Centre to set up a complimentary consultation.

During the procedure, a gap is drilled into the tooth’s crown and pulp chamber, diseased pulp is reshaped or removed, and the tooth is permanently sealed with a gold, porcelain, or tooth-colored inlay/onlay or crown.
