During Your Child’s Dental Exam
We understand that visiting the dentist can make our smallest patients nervous. That’s why we will work with you to ensure your child’s visit leaves them smiling.
During the exam, your child’s dentist and dental hygienist will clean your child’s teeth, look for signs of tooth decay, and check your child’s gum for disease. Depending on how long it has been since your child’s last visit, their dentist may also have x-rays taken of your child’s teeth and jaw, and perform other diagnostic procedures.
Once your child’s cleaning and exam are over, your dentist may apply fluoride to your child’s teeth to help prevent tooth decay, then apply a sealant. Sealants act as a protective barrier, bonding to the depressions and grooves in each tooth and protecting your child’s teeth from the damage caused by plaque and tartar.
If necessary, your child’s dentist or dental hygienist may also discuss your child’s diet and oral hygiene habits with both you and your child, and review proper brushing and flossing techniques.
